It’s been an extremely busy winter, attempting to photograph and film as many as events as humanly possible on an Ivy League weekend schedule. So here’s a few of my favorite frames from the past couple weeks from the following: a gymnastics home invite, men’s ice hockey vs Harvard and St. Lawrence, women’s basketball vs Princeton, wrestling vs Lock Haven, Penn and Princeton (for an Ivy League Title!) and last, but not least, just two frames from baseball practice. #YellCornell
I’ve really been trying to see things differently in the camera - meaning I typically lock in my 70-200mm f/2.8 lens and go to work. So with gymnastics, I tried a few different lenses in hopes of finding a gem. I feel like this was definitely one of those gems. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
The gymnastics team competes in four events, including the balance beam. While everyone else was shooting from the end, I thought it might make for a nice frame from the side and I was not disappointed. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
So many great celebration shots! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
And almost half of everything ends upside down. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Team celebration after a successful vault. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Uneven bars were a challenge to shoot with the background of the crowd, but I managed to sneak in a couple decent frames. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Looks easy, but it’s not! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Peak jump on the beam. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Pretty sure I said, “Ta da!” lots of times in my head, haha. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
You can really see the excitement in the photos. What a fun day in the gym. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Cornell Big Red Men’s Ice Hockey : Catching up quite a bit here to include some frames from the Harvard game and a couple more recent from a matchup with St. Lawrence. We hired a freelancer to cover the Harvard game, so I set out to find some scene-setters and environment photos that we could use later. It was a fun crowd and I enjoyed shooting the lighter side of things.
Lynah Rink is not a big (or bright) place, but when nearly-full - it was a really fun place to watch (and shoot) a game. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Again- trying to see things outside of the normal sports lens and managed to capture this beaut. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
I LOVE this angle of our rink, it’s just a bear trying to shoot wide and not have just the net in focus. Nailed this one right as Harvard pulled their goalie. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
SCORE! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Now on to the St. Lawrence game and few more stereotypical action shots. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Good look at the goal from this vantage point. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Shooting tight does have it’s advantages for the detail-type shots. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Nothing special going on here, but I really liked the spacial pattern we created as the men swarmed the puck. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Sooo close! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Spoiler Alert: It went in. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Cornell Big Red Women’s Basketball :
I managed to catch a little women’s basketball action vs Princeton a week or so ago and got to see some very physical play from a tall Tiger team. I like the top-down vantage point in our basketball gym for shots just like this one. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Like I said - it was a physical game. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
I didn’t even play and I have the same tongue-out tired feeling. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Cornell Big Red Wrestling : I have photographed a LOT of wrestling lately, as home duals were bunched up this month. The first set of photos is from the Lock Haven match, followed by a night dual with Penn and finally the Ivy League title bout against Princeton. This team has been extremely fun to watch and photograph.
A cropped version of this made its rounds on social media, but here’s the whole frame. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Our coaching staff gets excited as each one of these young men compete and it makes for lively matches and extremely good photos. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Time check as Yianni works toward another win. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
In hockey, that’s a 3 or 4 hole to the face! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Back points add up quickly when they are four at a time! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
A very excited team and crowd in the Friedman Wrestling Center. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
AndyB getting the better of his Penn opponent. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Hard to wrestle when you can’t see! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Looks like it hurts to lose. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
I love all of the extra arms and legs in this frame - it almost gives it “balance.” (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Pinned! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
This might be one of my favorite frames in this whole set. It’s just a nice moment between player and coach with a nice clean background that forces you to look at the elements. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Vito is really quick. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
REALLY quick. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Seems like everyone has the same thought. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
I love the balance here between the wrestlers and the ref. If you look close, I love seeing the eyes of the Princeton wrestler on the far left. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
“Get over here!” (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
I just love the facial expressions of both of these wrestlers. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Speaking of good facial expressions! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
HUGE win from Honis on senior day. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
The crowd LOVED the win, too! (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Cornell Big Red Baseball : I was able to catch a Sunday practice to film a pitcher for an upcoming video, but I’m almost never without a camera and was able to snap a couple frames before calling it a day. Cheers!
I shot a lot of these before finally getting a nice clear face AND the ball in the frame. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
Tonally, this might be my favorite image in the set. I love the contrast and texture across the frame. (Eldon Lindsay/Cornell Athletics)
